| In the time-honoured
tradition of the Asian Federation on Intellectual Disabilities, Singapore is proud
to host the 19th AFID Conference from 22 - 26
November 2009 at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. The theme of the Conference is "Towards Holistic
Development", and we envisage this Conference to encompass all aspects
appertaining to the intellectually disabled. Specific strands of the Conference will cover curriculum planning and special education, social, recreational and rehabilitative aspects, psychological and therapeutic interventions, parental support and self-advocacy among others, and indeed all items to do with the total holistic development of the intellectually affected. In 1987 when Singapore had the privilege of hosting the 8th Asian Conference on Mental Retardation, we attracted some 600 participants, with half of them from overseas. We hope to attract an even bigger attendance in 2009. Further details of the Conference will be posted on our website. We look forward to welcoming you in Singapore. Yours sincerely
